New York Head Case
NEW YORK HEAD CASE By Nicolaus Mills If Governor David Paterson has his way, New York State's ban on mixed martial arts will be repealed some time this spring. The sport, which combines boxing, wrestling, and jujitsu and allows a competitor to strike his opponent even when the latter has been knocked to the ground, was banned by the State Legislature 13 years ago in response to Governor George Pataki's argument that mixed martial arts was too dangerous. Governor Paterson's rationale for repealing the ban is that mixed martial arts events will bring the state much needed revenue. The [suite...]

“Head Case: Can psychiatry be saved?” is a review of two new books critical of the treatment of depression in America. As I study the history of psychiatry and psychology, with an interest in and emphasis on existential psychology and human potential practices, articles like Menand’s help build the case of all that’s wrong with the perception and treatment of psychological disorders. As Menand writes: There is suspicion that the pharmacrutical industry is cooking the studies that prove that antidepressant drugs are safe and effective, and that the industry’s direct-to-consumer [suite...]

Society for Humanistic Psychology: Head Case: Can Psychiatry Be A ...
Louis Menand, in The New Yorker, reports: You arrive for work and someone informs you that you have until five o’clock to clean out your office. You have been laid off. At first, your family is brave and supportive, and although you’re in shock, you convince yourself that you were ready for something new. Then you start waking up at 3 A.M., apparently in order to stare at the ceiling. You can’t stop picturing the face of the employee who was deputized to give you the bad news. He does not look like George Clooney. You have fantasies of terrible things happening to him, to your boss, to [suite...]

'92 LS Pick-up Head case question - Tsikot Philippines 2010
HI sirs.I am a newbie when it comes to isuzu pick-ups. I own a '92 LS pick-up and is planning to replace my headlights because of busted bulbs. The one I have right now is a sealed-beam type of headlights. Here are my questions: 1. is it possible for me to replace it with a non-sealed-beam headlights? If so, are there surplus or just replacements? YES. There are square-type H4 headlights you can buy, brand new or surplus. Most auto supply have these. (if in QC, Banawe would be a nice place to start; if Makati/Pasay - Evangelista) 2. What kind of bulbs do you suggest for me to buy if I just [suite...]

The New Yorker — “Head Case: Can psychiatry be a science?” « CCHR ...
There is suspicion that the pharmaceutical industry is cooking the studies that prove that antidepressant drugs are safe and effective, and that the industry’s direct-to-consumer advertising is encouraging people to demand pills to cure conditions that are not diseases (like shyness) or to get through ordinary life problems (like being laid off). The Food and Drug Administration has been accused of setting the bar too low for the approval of brand-name drugs. Critics claim that health-care organizations are corrupted by industry largesse, and that conflict-of-interest rules are lax or [suite...]

Best PR Update Ever – How To Handle Negative Press | Everything's ...
This has to be the best example of how to properly handle a potential PR nightmare that I’ve encountered in a very long time….it’s from the personal email newsletter/mailing-list for Jason Calacanis, CEO of the online service Mahalo. Apparently they had hired a programmer with a somewhat shady past that had the misfortune of it catching up with them. In this case, one of their programmers was convicted of infecting more than a quarter million computers with a now public ‘botnet.’ It explains his most basic and primary mistake of not ‘googling’ the employee prior to hiring him [suite...]

Summary of Lee Anthony interview just released in Casey Anthony (head) case! September 23, 2008 by citizenkim Here’s a really brief summary or Cliff’s notes for some of the recent pages released in the search for Caylee Anthony. The doll found in the car was Caylee’s favorite baby doll (named mama) – that Cindy said Caylee wouldn’t have gone anywhere without- would have thrown a fit! Sooo SAD! First, there’s an interview w/her older brother Lee Anthony. The interview took place about 2 weeks after all hell broke loose w/the phone call to 911 on 7/15. He was extremely cooperative [suite...]
